Crystal Orlando grew up near Moody, Texas. Creativity is in her dna. Her mother had a career in commercial art, and her dad is very creative. Along the way, she has learned much about art from her mother; however, she says that she considers herself self-taught in many ways. She sees details in everything, looking past first appearances. She reports that ideas for artistic expression flood into her mind continually. Nature is particularly inspiring to her.
Jewelry making became an important creative outlet after getting great reviews for the pieces she made for her own wardrobe. Unusual, organic, and dramatic describe her wearable art. She uses real stones and metals. She is a member of the TriCounty Gem Society and is currently pursuing her degree in Gemology.
Crystal has won numerous awaards for her drawings. This includes Best of Show in the Barklay Art Competition in Temple, Texas and Best of Show in the First Annual Art Show of Moody, Texas. She has studied painting under Jim Cox. Crystal is currently attending oil painting classes with Kay Griffith. She has won awards for her painted abstracts. Her current focus is realism in oils.
Crystal also enjoys working with wood and creates wooden lamps, furniture, and sculpture.
