M. Scott Echols

M. Scott Echols received his first educational degree from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, then went on to Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas to attain a B.S. in Veterinary Science, Summa Cum Laude, and his Doctor of Veterinary medicine, Magna Cum Laude.  From there, Echols went to The Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, California where he became an Associate and Avian Practice Resident and a Board Certified Specialist in Avian Medicine and Surgery. He has also given numerous presentations at veterinary, aviculture and teaching conferences and has had numerous articles published in professional journals, books and conference proceedings.

Given the artist’s background in veterinary medicine and years of experience working with exotic species, each painting is intended to capture the true visual beauty of both animal and environment. It is surprising to note that Echols is color blind, so he usually paints with a limited number of colors. Focus is given to the depth and shades of a given color scheme rather than painting with a wide spectrum. The animals my appear at home and blended with their surroundings, but are always painted as individuals. Echols hopes to capture each animal in its element.
